Miss Lundbeck's Announcements
The Activity Log
The fitness log will be distributed to ALL middle school students who are currently in P.E. This assignment is MANDATORY for every student in P.E. Each middle school student will be responsible for completing the log during a 6 week period striving for one hour of activity each day. Keep in mind that any physical activity is better than none. Even if the activity-time is less than 60 minutes, record the time on the log. I will be spot-checking the logs before the Interims and have posted those dates on my Fusion page in a separate message. This assignment is worth 10% of the P.E. grade: 5% towards the Interim grade and 5% towards the final grade. Also we have added an essay question on the back of the activity log. It is very important that a parent signs the log and essay to verify its accuracy. Any student losing their log may download another one from this page. You may download the log on the right side of my page. Any log handed in late will lose points each day it is late. Thank you!
Intramurals for 4th and 5th grade students!
Hi Parents! I am excited to announce that the Intramural program is back! The NEF has graciously funded this program for the 4th and 5th grade students. Intramurals will be held every Friday, 3:10 - 4:10, in the girl's gym starting on April 17th and continuing until the end of the school year.
Sneakers and a permission slip are required. Permission slips will be going home on March 16th for any interested 4th or 5th grade student. Please hand in the permission slip to Miss Lundbeck. Thank you!
Elementary Health classes
Hi Parents! In my kindergarten through third grade Health classes, we are discussing safety awareness. I have asked the students to practice a fire drill at home so they become familiar with exit routes and a meeting place to gather after exiting your home. Many of you already have a fire plan in place but many of you do not so I ask that you do this for the safety of your children.
Thank you for your help! Miss Lundbeck
ESSAY QUESTIONS for the 2014 - 2015 Activity Log!!
The P.E. department has added an essay question to the Activity Log in order to incorporate writing skills across the curriculum. The essay question must be written with opening and closing sentences along with at least 3 supporting sentences. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH YOUR PARENTS AND HAVE THEM SIGN THEIR NAME AT THE END OF THE ESSAY!
1st quarter: In order for your P.E. class to run smoothly, what is your role and responsibility as a member of the class?
2nd quarter: Explain why we all should incorporate physical activity into our everyday lives.
3rd quarter: Explain four consequences of being physically inactive.
4th quarter: During the summer months, how do you plan to maintain your fitness?
Doctor's notes and participating in class
When your child brings in a doctor's note excusing him/her from physical education, I must abide by that note. I appreciate that your child may feel ready to participate, and may want to participate, but I must follow the instructions from the doctor. If you as the parent/guardian, feel that your child is ready to participate before the end of the prescribed time, then please send in a signed note stating that you give permission for your child to participate. Thank you!
GIRL's Middle School P.E. "Lost and Found"
If your middle school child has lost any clothing, shoes or jewelry while in P.E. class, please ask her to check the "Lost and Found" boxes in the girl's locker room. Any items not claimed will be donated to the Goodwill Industries. Thank you!
P.E. clothes for 2014 school year
In case you wanted to shop over the summer this is a reminder about wearing the appropriate clothes and sneakers: due to safety issues, no student will be able to participate in class without the proper sneakers. Sneakers without backs, sneakers with platform bottoms, and sneakers with wheels are not acceptable.
Also, for the girls, please bring in clothes that are suitable for running, jumping, etc. No "short-shorts" or revealing tops. We will be going outside in the colder weather so you may want to bring in an old sweatshirt and/or sweat pants and leave them in your P.E. locker. Thanks!
Healthy Eating on a Budget
Hi Parents! I just received word that the USDA has added to ChooseMyPlate.gov a section called, "Healthy Eating on a Budget". These new web pages, "provide families with tips and strategies to help save money and plan a healthier diet." The article also states, "With so many food options available, it is often difficult for consumers to determine the best foods to put on their plates when the budget is tight." I hope you enjoy this new source of information! Miss Lundbeck
Health classes (K - 3rd grades)
My students are learning about nutrition and hopefully making smart choices when picking a snack. Visit www.ChooseMyPlate.gov to read the latest information about healthy foods and to find healthy recipes. You may also want to read the article entitled, "Healthy Eating Plate" which was issued by the Harvard School of Public Health. This article describes in more detail the ideas behind My Plate. Enjoy your reading and the recipes! Miss Lundbeck
